Leave a Legacy

Local Horseshoe Artist Brian Crandall has designed and crafted this beautiful tree for Harmony Acres to commemorate our 10-year anniversary. The tree emphasizes our ROOTS, made up of our core values, donors, volunteers, staff, and animals; our GROWTH which has come from this strong system of support; and our BLOSSOMS, which are the many moments of healing at our facility that go on to bless the greater community.

Now is the perfect time to LEAVE A LEGACY on the Harmony Acres Legacy Tree by purchasing a beautiful stainless steel leaf to hang and shimmer off one of the branches; or a bird to perch in the tree or soar above it in the sky. Your unique design will include an inscription of your choice to honor a loved one or add your own value word or thought to include on the tree for years to come.

Your support will allow Harmony Acres to produce many more "blossoms" of healing through therapy work involving animals. Join us on October 12th for an open house and "Leafing" ceremony to finalize this beautiful piece of artwork.

Tax Deductibility of Legacy Gifts and Pledges

Harmony Acres is a 501(c)(3) that benefits those overcoming the impacts of trauma or disability through the healing power of animals. As such, all gifts are tax deductible at both the state and federal levels. Your tax advisor can provide detailed information on how to maximize this benefit. Legacy Leaf and Bird purchases will be recorded as a tax deductible donation.

Leave a Further Legacy

There are numerous ways you can ensure the long-term, sustained work of Harmony Acres Equestrian Center. Whether a planned gift arranged for via your personal will, a tax-free IRA distribution, transfer of stock, or one of many other financial planning tools, you can – in as little as one sentence – ensure your gift and the future impact it will bring:

Will:

The simplest way to ensure the long-term, sustained work of Harmony Acres Equestrian Center is through a planned gift, arranged for in your personal will. In as little as one sentence, you can ensure your support for Harmony Acres’ important work for years to come. For further information on how simple this can be – and to make certain your generous legacy is appropriately honored – talk with your attorney/personal financial advisor, or contact Christy Burke, Executive Director at Harmony Acres Equestrian Center.

IRA:

Harmony Acres can accept charitable rollovers (i.e. Qualified Charitable Distributions), providing significant tax benefit for donors age 70-1/2 years or older. IRS regulations allow these donors to make contributions directly from an IRA account without paying taxes on the distribution, with the benefit of making a difference today. Or, you are able to designate Harmony Acres as the beneficiary of these retirement funds, which will pass to the organization tax-free after your lifetime. Your financial advisor can provide the proper forms, and tell you more about both options.

Life Insurance:

Designating Harmony Acres as the beneficiary of life insurance proceeds allows this asset to pass to the organization outside of a will.  This gift can be made by simply updating the beneficiary designation form with the insurance policy holder, and can even allow for Harmony Acres to be a “contingent beneficiary” only if the primary beneficiary does not survive you.

Investment Accounts:

Harmony Acres accepts gifts of stock. Transfers of securities and mutual funds that have increased in value, and have been held for more than one year, are an easy and popular way to make a gift and realize additional personal benefits (e.g. avoiding capital gains taxes). This form of giving can happen immediately, or as a transfer after your lifetime.

Bank and Investment Accounts:

Harmony Acres can be named as the "payable on death" beneficiary of bank and investment accounts.

Endowed Gifts or Family Trusts:

The Western Colorado Community Foundation provides options to set up a family trust or an endowment directly benefitting Harmony Acres. Gifts can even be made anonymously if you so prefer. You can contact the Western Colorado Community Foundation at wc-cf.org or 970-243-3767 to discuss how your gift can benefit Harmony Acres and its valuable work for years to come.
